HEEL TREAD Cobra 427 Socks

Carrol Shelby has combined American V8 power with European styling and chassis to create one of the most iconic sports cars ever. The Cobra was a fast, light rocket on wheels. With the introduction of the insanely powerful 427, Shelby not only built the fastest production car in America, he immortalized The Legend of the mighty Cobra.

With a prominent racing career that included a victory at the 1959 24 hours of Le Mans in an Aston Martin DBR1, Carrol Shelby has always been obsessed with fast cars. After retiring from racing due to heart problems, Shelby focused on his lifelong dream of becoming a sports car builder.

An entrepreneur at heart, when Shelby heard the news that, in 1961, British AC Cars was going to stop production of its agile and elegant sports car for lack of engine availability, he saw his opportunity. He asked AC to send him an Ace with the gearbox shifted so that in the engine compartment he could fit an American V8. The first Cobra prototype took just eight hours to build, but the legend was here to stay.

The MkI was introduced the following year. Powered by a Ford 260 V8 and later a 289 (4.3/4.7 L), the revolutionary combination of brute force and light agility took the world of sports cars by storm. As Cobra evolved, it Found Glory at home, where it dominated the series U.S. Road Racing Championship for three years, having lost only one race during that time, and worldwide challenged, and even surpassed, Ferrari's dominance in GT Endurance Racing (Ford vs Ferrari prequel, anyone?).

In 1964, Shelby began work on the MkIII. While there is no record of anyone complaining about the lack of power of previous Cobras, his relentless ambition to build the fastest production car in the world and to be a true competitor to the power of Maranello drove him to push the limits. Enter the monstrous 7-liter Ford Cobra 427 big block. It produced 450 hp and 600 Nm of torque. It had a 0-60 second time of just over 4 seconds and had a top speed of 164 mph (264 km / h). Despite being wider, stiffer and better in almost every respect than its predecessors (although the 289 is considered the most balanced set in the range), it was, unsurprisingly, a handful for most owners who simply tried to drive on the road and found themselves rolling through the adjacent fields. And, if the road was slippery, it was better to have your affairs in order before setting off. Still not satisfied with the monster he had created, in 1966 Shelby embarked on a mission to create the "Cobra to end all snakes". The "Super Snake" was an even more unbalanced version, with two superchargers and a claimed 800 hp. In a one-ton road car. Before Electronics and driving aids. Bless his heart.

A redesign of one of our first models, the Cobra is a legend that we felt deserved a more fitting tribute.
